you can pull the opening rockers pins out far enough (10mm or so) to slide the rocker across and off the top of the shim and down out of the way to get the cams out, without pulling them all the way out.  i don't remove the opening rockers because it's one of those little fiddly jobs that annoys me.  once the RH opening rocker is out of the way the cam will come straight out.  you need to turn it a little to let the closing lobes clear the opening rocker on the way out, but it's very easy.

we use a slidehammer to get the pins out.
