Yes Steve,
 you must be invited to join gmail.  I will be glad to send invitations for
those wanting to join. I use Gmail to manage the Pantaheads list, and it
works well.

Kevin, had the same problem with my perfectly valid email address. They
wouldn't accept it. The solution was to establish a gmail address, which
they took. I'm no wiz with this stuff-I think you have to be "invited" by
someone with a gmail address in order to have one. I'll do it for you if you
want-it can't be that hard. Ping me off list if you'd like.
