Hi Brenda
I'm in a similar situation here on St Martin in the Caribbean.
Unfortunately there is no easy solution. If you want to have precision
equipment in a third world environment that you have to be able to
repair it yourself. I'm pretty good with bikes but am going to limit
myself to air cooled carb Ducatis because there is no way I can deal
with the computerised FIM etc myself without the dealer software. A
good mechanic should be able to keep your Monster in order (depending on
which one) but the Multipasta may not be so easy. I decided to go for
the Elefant, carburettored, air cooled with a very strong frame.
Reportedly able to go places that would reduce a Multi to a quivering
heap of twisted metal. Only 10kg more than the Multi but out of
production for the last 10 years. Engine parts are still available
because it shares most with all of the 900 air cooled Ducatis. There is
also a great support network of Elefant riders around the world.

Good luck

Stuart - riding daily on the Pachiderm, Darmah comes out on sunny days
and holidays.
