One of my greatest joys was when a friend taught me how to Travis pick. Suddenly, I was making this lush sound on my little acoustic 6 string. I can't play nearly as well now (motorcycle accident, but that's another story), but I can still get that finger-picking pattern going. Three chords, a couple of pull-offs and walking bass, and you got yourself a song, by god.
BTW, I took a quick look at Graydon's sight. Nice looking stuff you got there - classic. Nothing like the buzz and hum of a tube amp. Reminds me of the same friend who turned me onto Ducati, who would drag me into his room to listen to a vinyl recording of Stevie Ray Vaughn playing Little Wing. You could hear it all: the 60 cycle hum, the fingers sliding on the string, the click of the pick, and the wail of the guitar. Ah, those were the days.
