Good start, but I have an addition to your system. Years ago I broke my right wrist and converted my 500 suzuki to left hand throttle/brake, right hand clutch. Add this to the kick start thumper and you will truly have a theft/loan proof bike. Moonbeam

I spent 4 1/2 years on the (Honduran owned) Caribbean island of Roatan and started (and sold) Capt. Van's Motorcycle Rentals there (with Capt. Van who I met there). I will not even begin to discuss the amount of crime that place is riddled with (WAY more that a lot) but I DID solve the problem of having ANYBODY ride off with my bike.

It was a 1990 Husqvarna 510 with Hi-Comp piston. And I (all 155 LBS of me) was the ONLY person on the island who could kick-start it. Including a 250-pound friend and most of my other friends. Everyone wanted to ride it and I told them "if you can start it you can ride it." And it never had anyone at the controls but me :-) It took a technique, you could say. But I leaned it as anyone could have. Maybe a Hi-comp piston will help your case too.

As far as your family goes, well, all I can say is good luck and you have my blessings.

Stuart, enjoy the Caribbean. Personally I am done with it but that's another story... Don't have to carry a gun anymore since living back "home."

Ride Well!!!

Ever been driving home and seen your bike coming
towards you with a
scruffy rasta kid riding it? Well that happened to me
this morning, I
did a sharp left turn and took the fu***er out.
(strange feeling riding
deliberately into a bike, especially your own) Not
too much damage to
my truck and only a rip on the bike's seat and a
scratch on the side
cover. The would be bike thief was still walking and
managed to get on
the back of his friend's bike and took off. My family
instincts made me
go home to check all was ok, my wife was home and
disturbed them. She
went down when one of them pulled a gun but they still
managed to hack
her on the hand with something. So the rest of the
day was spent with
the Gendarmes and sitting in the emergency room.

There's not much chance they will get the guys and we
will never be able
to id them anyway. They did leave a hacksaw on the
scene which is being
sent off for DNA sampling etc. Main thing is
everyone is more or less
ok, I still have all my bikes (anyone out there have a
seat for a Husky
410?) We'r all just a bit shaken up and back on the
security thing. I
need another big dog and a security camera.
