there's 3 ss swingarms - steel for the 600, 750, cheaper 800 and 900 sport and cr versions, aluminium for the 900ss and sp versions and the rounded aluminium one that came out on '02 900ssie and stayed for the 1000. did it come on the 800ss as well? i don't recall.
theoretically all swingarms since '91 will swap. they changed the aluminium one slightly around '95 or so, so the chain guard and hugger on the early ones won't fit the later ones, but as an assembly they swap. i've heard the later ones are slightly different as to shock mount, but i'm not sure there. the '02 on round aluminium arm is lasted as a dp upgrade kit for all '91 on bikes. the steel ones are narrower, as stated, and i believe you need a wide swingarm cush drive assembly to fit a narrow wheel into a wide arm. there's a few people on this list who have swapped 4.5 rims for 5.5 rims in 900cr (we never got that model) who know more about that than me.
there was also the dp aluminium upgrade for the 600 and 750, which was the old style verlicchi crack special '88 750 sport type arm, with the big axle end plates. not sure when that dropped from the listings.
