[Ducati] 900SS

Since there's been some 900 SS talk lately, I've got a question for 900
SS owners that might have replaced their stock fuel tank cap with one of
the lighter aluminum ones. I replaced my stocker (1996 900 SS) with one
from MotoWheels. It was a simple installation, fit beautifully, and
everything seemed perfect..............until I raised my tank to get to
the battery. Gas leaked from the cap seating area badly. Not just a
trickle, it flowed from the seating surface of the cap. I contacted
MotoWheels and explained what had happened and they were mystified.
They sent me a replacement cap. I installed it and the same thing
occurred. Now, I don't often use this bike for track days, but I
occasionally do. The prospect of crashing the bike is daunting enough,
but the prospect that I'd crash it and gas would be leaking from the gas
cap isn't a pleasant prospect. So, has anyone out there installed a
brand of aluminum fuel cap assembly that they have experience with and
that doesn't leak? If you do, please confirm that you've raised your
tank and propped it up with this cap installed and have had no seepage
of fuel from the cap sealing area, and please advise the brand you
purchased and who you bought it from. The stock cap is soooo heavy that
I'd like to replace it with an aluminum one, but one that properly
seals.

Thanks!

D.J.
