[Ducati] Terblanche leaves Ducati

Just some random thoughts.....For the average rider Tasmburini's 916 was the
icon. It brought Ducati attention like no other...form over function:
...with the addition of Cycle Cat adjustable bars I ride my 998 for 500 +
mile days with no problems (I am 61 yrs. old)....I believe PT wanted to make
his mark by going beyond Tamburini's designs. He rolled the dice and he
lost. Sometimes you just have to understand where you are in the history of
something. FWIW, I do not hate the 999, but it was the wrong design for the
time. I'm guessing but I think PT's ego got in the way. If PT was key to
anything, it was making it clear that Ducati's Superbike must have stunning
design. It is the flagship even if few buy one. It sets Ducati apart from
the other sport bikes and, thus, elevates the Ducati line making it possible
for other models to be associated with and benefit from the elegance and
exclusivity of the name....Ducati. When Tamburini designed the MV, it was
clear to me what the successor to the 916 was supposed to be.

PT's function over form design was needed to offset Tamburini's
form over function design. Beauty at any cost makes great art but
realistically, for the average guy, not much more than a couple of hundred
miles a day.
:-) So in a way, he was very key to the happy state of things we as
Ducatisti
are currently enjoying. Beauty and Function happily exist together. Let's
give the man his due.
