1960 Austin Healey 3000 Mk I and a 1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II in High
School that I rebuilt from the rough on the cheap. When my brother blew
the engine up in the 60' model, I slipped a 327 and running gear in the
60'. By college, I had built it up to a 350 that was making 425 BHP w/
Crane Superflow heads, 12 bolt w/ Moroso PT, and a Muncie 220 low
aluminum box 4 speed, KONI's on all 4 corners w/ steel wheels (no
splined wire wheels for this guy). GREAT handling car, because the
Chevrolet running gear was 200 pounds lighter than stock, and the front
end of the car finally steered in the corners instead of under
steering/plowing using that tractor 6 cyl it came with. Sold it after
college.....still regret it. It was FAST! Even outran a 750 triple
Kawa in a street race one night.
