I don't know Pick, but I might have freaked a bit also having gone the  
better part of a year with an undiagnosed brain malady leading to vision  problems 
and ultimately a stroke. Having had a stroke as a result of  complications 
from surgery myself, they suck. He "retired" shortly after  corrective surgery 
although he has competed on bikes sporadically over the  years, notably in 
British Superbike. I wasn't aware he was racing cars!   Sounds like a good way to 
keep in racing in some form.
