[Ducati] 748 Cush Drive

The cush drives are a known problem on the 748-998 family of Superbikes.
The sprocket bolt eventually separates from the cush, and the cush backs out
and chews up your swingarm and eccentric.
You have several choices to address this: you can buy new cush drives from
Ducati for about $30-$40 each. That doesn't solve the problem, but it will
keep your bike on the road, and, if you keep an eye on the cush drives and
don't get unlucky on any long rides, you should be fine. If you buy an
aftermarket sprocket carrier, most have some sort of retention device built
in to keep the cush drives from sliding out the back when they fail. Again,
doesn't solve the problem, but it can prevent the damage after they fail.
Or, you can buy a set of aftermarket cush drives that solves the problem for
good. They are about double the cost of new OEM parts. I don't know who
sells them anymore (I got mine from BCM several years back.) On my
old-style Superbike racebikes, I used the aftermarket cush drives and never
had any failures.
I have a set of used OEM cush drives and a set of used aftermarket cush
drives if you're interested. Ping me off-list at info at woundedduc.net
