Holy Taglioni! I went to the Ducati list and a discussion of baroque art
broke out. ;-) Nice meeting you too Keith.

Maybe some of us can do both....
I stand (or sit) corrected. I know that Dan rides his bikes, and maybe
he is the norm. Although, he did say that he avoids certain road/traffic
conditions (while this may be due to risk of injury more than bike
damage). While I may not be happy about some situations, I'll take the
900 anywhere, anytime (okay, maybe not lane-splitting on the Golden Gate
Bridge in a Nor-Wester). Age, and occupation have overtaken me, but in
my 30s, I lived on a bike. I can, and sometimes do, still use the Cagiva
for all the things I carried on my bikes, and all the purposes I used
them for; but I would not risk the 900. I worry about scratches, or
accidental damages. With the Alazzurra, it's just a matter of enough
bungie cords and some creative loading. Scratches? Not a concern. Drop
it? That's what wire and duck tape are for.
Or, maybe I'm just not efficient or tenacious enough to spend the time
over a long time to restore bikes. I'm thankful for the work that Dan
and others do so I can enjoy the classics (running classics, no less),
however they ride them.
PS It was great to meet Dan. He definitely knows his bikes, and is
passionate about them. And it was gracious of him to let me see his
collection.
PPS Regarding art, I think of motorcyles more as living art. Instead of
Bernini (I'll take his David over Michaelangelo's anytime), I think of a
wolf, lean and strong, although somewhat worn by time and incidents,
moving fast and smooth across the tundra. How the fur flows, how the
muscles ripple, how the wolf tracks his prey and notes his surroundings
while at full run. He stumbles, and falls, but is back up, shakes
himself off, and is back on the run.
