Subject: [Ducati] Draggin Jeans vs dog

The short story is dog - 1, draggin jeans - 0.

My neighbor's huge dog decided to take a bite out of me today on my way
home. I was cruising along at about 15mph on my gravel road, and it and
another dog come running straight at me, directly ahead of me. I slowed
down, figuring they would swerve aside and I would take off past them.
They've chased me before, but never anything too serious. But they didn't
swing aside, so I had to stop really fast to avoid running over them. I
might have actually bumped one of them with my front wheel. Then both dogs
come around to my right, and the big one goes for my leg. He bit me on the
calf right below the knee, unfortunately right below the kevlar and knee
pad. He just about dragged me over with the bike, but luckily let go, and I
was able to hold the bike up with my leg. Then he came back and got my
boot, but by that time, I'd snapped out of my shock and started yelling at
him which made him back off. He and the other dog wouldn't back off more
than about 6 feet, though, and I was afraid if I took off, turning my back
on them they'd come after me again. I moved real slowly forward into their
driveway, letting them stay on my side where I could see them. Luckily
another neighbor pulled up behind me and helped scare the dogs off (he saw
most of the incident), and their owners came out of their house. I'd been
reving my engine trying to scare the dogs as well, so I think they finally
figured out something was wrong. They graciously agreed to pay for a new
pair of jeans for me and keep their dog locked up in the future, so the plus
side is that I get a new pair of jeans, which I was already thinking about
getting because my current ones are a bit short. The dog just barely broke
my skin in one tiny spot - the rest is just bruises, but I can see clearly
where his teeth where. I also found out that they keep up on their rabies
vaccinations, so I should be good there. Definitely a memorable ride,
though.
