Yes there is only one way to alleviate the flex that cases that crack and
unfortunately the air box is in the way. The early 888s had the tube and it
got in the way so Ducati took it out. On the superbikes they replaced that
simple straight tube with a complex heavy two walled u shaped stamping all
because of the air box. If you run pod filters then that tube can be put
back where it should have been from day one. It runs across the top of the
frame from the bend on either side of the steer tube. Anything else just
doesn't deal with the true design issue and will only move the stress that
causes the crack from one place to another and is a waste of time and money.
