[Ducati] 6000 mile service

Why not do what you can do and pay only for what you cant? Dealer should be able to list all that they are doing for that service and perhaps give you some options. A rocker clearance adjustment is the biggest item and can be time consuming. To insure that you get what you pay for ask for before and after adjustment numbers and how many had to actually be adjusted. Also you want all used or replaced parts. Ask em some simple questions to determine the quality of the work, how do they tension belts? proper tool used or one of several shortcuts? how do they retime cams? You either line pulleys up with marks in head or you use degree wheel/tdc etc. How do they determine chrome problems on rockers, by removing cams and inspecting or by feel or by hocus pocus? Do they check the back cam cover lower nut and perhaps locktite it? If they do not know what you mean by this I would move on as they have not worked on Ducatis enough to be a Ducati mechanic. This is
the one that if it loosens it falls in belt and shreds belt and likely quite a few valves along with it. oh yeah that like flaking rockers seldom happens, it is an "internet myth created by folks with too much time on their hands, not real mechanics like us. " Yeah right. I used to have litmus tests for Duc mechanics that you can just use to gauge quality through conversation but in the end I decided it was better to do my own work, guess why? Rich

I've had the 6000 service done to 2 748s, and each has been around $1000.
Most places quote $600, but that doesn't cover any extras, like flaking
rocker arms, which is quite a common problem.
