Paul I have a 95 900 SP with alot of miles on her and she really has been solid. Just normal replacement of life limited parts with the exception of having to weld my swingarm back together. I cant speak for the industry but I worked automotive dealerships for alot of years and I can tell you that each brand has it's turkey model and even their more solid product can come in with repeated problems on the same vehicle. We used to call them "After lunch on friday cars" because they seemed to have been assembled by drunks and were really Lemons. I guess It can happen to any manufacturer. Just bad luck to buy one. My son's 06 999 has more problems, example, water pump leak, whole headlight assy nearly coming off on the freeway, tail sub assy nearly sheared of the mounting bolts, passenger seat bolts came out and lost on freeway and the list goes on. But he stilll loves her.
