Alex,

I think that the article has merit.  While I agree that many of the bikes
have issues when new,
those issues should be addressed during pre-delivery service or under
warranty. That's the selling dealer's responsibility. 
If the Ducati flat-rate time for a particular recommended service is set,
the dealer should abide by that flat-rate time.
Having said that, I see no problem opting for additional service as an
obsessive owner, but added on
tasks should be offered as an option, and itemized properly to represent
what is being paid for.  

Surely many of us on this list have paid large dealer set-up fees upon
delivery of the bike only to find that
the bike came out of the crate and was never properly checked.  I know that
I have, and on numerous
brands and dealers as well.
