[Ducati] muffler disassembly

Keith,

The basic procedure is to drill into the rivets to remove
them. Don't worry about being careful with them, just pick a small
bit (usu 1/8") and drill directly into the center of the rivet to remove them.

As far as the packing, there are kits for packing all over the
place. I repacked a set of Sparks mufflers recently. usually, there
is a wrap of metal gauze, then a fiberglass wrap on top of that. The
gauze is a bee-yotch to get off, get yourself a set of shop
scissors. Make sure to use a particle mask, the carbon will be flying.

I did not use the full fiberglass when I repacked. I just wrapped
using the gauze and used twice as much, and a single wrap of
fiberglass. The sound is much deeper now.

Stainless gauze is better, it will last much longer.

For shortening, you just need to trim the cans and then trim the
inside baffle byt the same length. That's it, no rocket science. My
baffle is just an internal pipe with holes in it and two small holes
for the rear nozzle to rivet onto.

A rivet puller is cheap, like 18$ from home depot and the rivets are
likewise around $5 for a dozen. I used 2 boxes of rivets.
