It's common to overfill if you go strictly by the printed
documentation (owner's manual, workshop manual).
In my case, both the owner's and workshop manual for my '03 ST4s
states 3.7 to 3.8 liters for an oil change including the filter.
It actually takes about 3.3 liters so that's why I had to siphon off
the extra .5 liter. Maybe that .5 liter is stuck somewhere and can't
be drained as a part of a regular oil change?
