I had the same problem with several filters a couple years ago. Just didn't matter how you tightened them, they would leak. Best I could tell it was actually from the crimped seam. I figured it was just a run of bad filters as I haven't had any issues since...awe sheet, I guess I just jinxed myself :(

  Subject: [Ducati] Oil filter leak

I've been having a lot of problems with oil filter
leaks lately. I never used to have any problems until
the last year or two, and I used to take the process
for granted. What could be simpler than changing a
  filter?

It seems pretty basic - remove old filter, make sure
old gasket comes with it, wipe sealing surface clean,
lube new gasket with some clean oil, install new
filter and snug up by hand. But it doesn't seem to be
working any more. At least half the time I get the
drip. I've always used the OEM filters because I've
heard of this being a problem with some of the
  aftermarket brands.

This time the filter was ok for a couple of months but
today, drip drip drip. Coincidentally, I was headed up
to the dealer to look at new bikes. Maybe my bike
  didn't like that idea?!

Anyone else having problems or is it just me? And how
tight should I put it on? I've heard that too tight
will deform the filter and make it leak. I did this
one maybe a quarter turn past initial contact.
