[Ducati] ST4/4s flaky rockers, how common?

Hi all,

I've been considering buying an ST for a while now.
Love my 900CR, but it's too uncomfortable for longer
rides. A new ST3 is beyond my budget at the moment,
but a used ST4 or ST4s would be affordable and there
are some nice-looking ones available locally.

I'm worried about the rocker arm issue though. The
sellers all say they've never had a problem, and the
local dealer says they've never seen a bad one. Does
that just mean they've never looked? (they charge flat
rate).

So, a couple of questions:

How common is the problem? Is it rare or is it really
pretty common?

If I buy a bike with say 15K miles and it has some bad
rockers that have never been replaced, are the cams
likely to be trashed too?
