I suggest washing it however you want, then get the leaf blower out and  blow 
dry.
Leaves no streaks on the paint, not water spots on the instruments, no  
slippage of the dry clutch, and less likelihood of electrical shorts unless you  
went crazy with the hose.  I still wouldn't cover it with anything  nonporous, 
but I've used a flood light under the cover over the winter to keep  some 
warmth under the radiator and engine block which I doubt I really  need.  I learned 
that trick when my 74 alfa 1.hp starter motor wouldn't  crank 7 quarts of 
cold oil on a winter  N.E  morning. A light  bulb under the sump did the trick. 
Just don't put the light too close to  anything that will melt or burn such as 
plastic or rubber.
