[Ducati] 2000 SS900 spilled fuel

Hello,

Can someone answer this question.  Recently, while charging the battery on 
my 2000 Ducati 900SS, I left the gas tank in the up position for a couple of 
days, and fuel spilled out of the cap.  Now, when starting my bike, the 
engine has more of a "knocking sound" and the acceleration is not smooth.

Is this a problem that will correct itself as the fuel in the system 
evaporates?  Any suggestions?
