I have 3 Gmail accounts.
The ads they place on my email pages are related to info in my emails.
Google does snoop/spy.
No pop-ups.

To my knowledge... you'll never see ads with Gmail. I've never had any
popups, or what have you and it's spam filter is simply stellar.
So anything regarding that article... is new to me.
Although I would *not* discount google from tracking information, as they
(like Apple) want to know everything about everyone who uses or is
interested in their service / products...
