Ummm, 'cause it's as near to a street-legal MotoGP bike as you can buy.
A 999R is already well over $20K, a 999RS customer-racing bike is
somewhere over $40 (I think), so what did you expect?
In terms of technology I think it's a tremendous value. Yes, I'm
disappointed that I can't afford one, but I'm disappointed I can't
afford a Ferrari Enzo either.
Lesson 1 of economics- something is only worth what someone else will
pay for it. I have a feeling there are LOTs of someones who would be
willing to pay $65,000 for a near 200 HP Ducati desmoseidici. I know of
one who has already placed his deposit.
