As long as we're putting in our $0.02. I'm betting on something more
like the Desmosedici RR, but different enough to tell it apart. That
is, if it looks nothing like the spy pics ;)

Stuart,
I think you are on to something. I talked with a VERY reliable source
who said "that everyone thinks they know, but they don't. The spy shots
are not even close". His exact quote was - "The world is going to stop
turning for a moment when it is officially released". I tried and tried
to get more info, but he said Ducati was unbelievably serious about
keeping this a secret and he would NOT give any details at all.
When I said Ducati needs something that makes as big of a splash as the
original 916, he said "You will not be disappointed."
How is that for a tease?
C'mon Nov.14th!

Please remember that the final 1098 may look nothing like the test mules
spotted. It is not uncommon for motor companies to put bits and pieces
together to make a prototype and usually they disguise the final
prototypes to put the press off. So, maybe the test bike spotted even
has a Fireblade fairing on - its possible. When I worked at Ford in the
early 90s, we began tests on the Focus (project BE99) and the first test
mules were VW Golfs because their structure resembled the Focus more
closely than the Escort did.
My crystal ball says the new bike will bear more than a slight
resemblance to the GP bike.....waiting eagerly for next month.
