  What you see is accurate.  Here is what I was told from a high level Ducati exec:
  "Regarding the new 1098 (not 1200cc) we are ready to show the bike in the next milan show in november. The bike will have (as the 916) single side swingarm and underseat oval silencers. the front fairing is ispirated from the 916.
  I confirm that on the track will be the faster one!"
   
  So look forward to November Milan Show!
   
  Personnally I think settling back to the 916 look is week and shows lack of new thinking but I still hope it is hot!!     I really love the look of the 999 weather it is popular or not!   It is definately not mistakable for anything but a Duck and that alone makes it reatg!   If they start designing look alike Japanese bikes I will be very sad!   
   
  But in a nut shell I think that reverting back to the 916, all though one of the sexiest bikes ever designed...it still shows lack of design innovation and leadership!
