Yeah I am still out here, I read all the emails just scan for something new. I have no issues with the repeat themes, lots of new folks just can get as tired of hearing my own voice as I know some others have over the years. Looking for that new topic to punch us through to new vistas....ha. Oshkosh was reamrkable. I had no idea but the closest thing I can think of is Bike Week but way better than any Bike Week. Imagine Bike Week with all the racing, with a motorcycle show of all old and new and everything in between and then on top of that week long seminars on how to do just about anything including how to make your own motorcycle from scratch. That is Oskosh and nothing in the Motorcycle world comes close. When the worlds best rqcers put on shows everynight showing you all the acrobatic stuff they do for fun....well maybe then it will be getting closer. I have never walked away from Bike Week just toasted, done, exhausted. Hell I spent an hour or two just talking to one
guy who ran business overhauling or restoring Rolls Royce Merlin engines.... and hours watching guys form metal...I mean it was the most amazing experience. Bud Anderson was signing his book and I quite frankly did not know what to say to such a man...Chuck Yeagers wingman or was yeager his wingman? Spaceshipone Pilot talking to small group...nothing compares. I found it the perfect change of pace for any gearhead. And the acrobatic show everynight...punctuated by the arrival of everything from C-47s to B-17s to B1 bombers....the weather was wonderful...cool and sunny....getting to check out the intricate titanium working end of those B1 bomber powerplants...gives you a new appreciation for the metal working craft and that such an intricate mechanism can work in that environment. I loved it.
I rode all of 33 from Richmond to just past Fort Wayne and coming back rode all of 250 thru WV into Virginia. It was a nice ride up and back. I had not been that way for many years. I spent several years around Chicago back in 70s. Still one of my favorite cities. You folks who spend time on the lakefront do not know how good you have it. What 20 miles of park, path, ballfields, tennis courts, basketball courts, water....when I passed that way I would guess that 50000 people were using the lakefront recreational facilities and it took me ages to get passed it all. Has to be one of the best in the nation. And I have been on boarwalks up and down East and West Coast. Nothing in California is even close. and then you get past all of that northside of Chicago and the old homes never end...you could spend a month just looking at homes of interest from a historical and architectural standpoint. I got lost and it took me hous to get past it all.
I did not recognize Milwaukee, a place we young sailors frequented for the friendly local bars on every corner. I guess they are still there but the city has grown in a huge way in 30 years. Some skylines are instantly familiar no matter the development but others have shot up fast. I am not exactly a city boy, having grown up outside NYC, still like wide open country but have a real appreciation for accessible usable cities, ones you can get in and out of fast but have some citified merits like architecture, history, culture whether music, art. etc. But my real love are small town America, Mainstreet. Lots of that cutting across middle america. Though Oshkosh a little rough around the edges still it was a nice town.
So next airplane adventure has to be airraces in Reno or something similar. Rich

Hey Rich
Was wondering if you were still around, especially with no reply after Oshkosh....
My favorite for long term metal protection/storage is Boeshield. Been using it for over 25+ years after working at Piper Aircraft/Lakeland. Cast woodworking tools (Table saw and planer beds), tractors, boats, cyles.... Never had any problems with it, cheap and readily available. Another old favorite is Marvel Mystery oil to 'fog' the engine for long term storage. A bit poured down the intake of any running engine will choke it out and protect.
Welcome back...(-:
