Just as a general rule, using fine sandpaper, 1000 grit or finer, isn't a
good idea to clear over. The whole reason for sanding a part before coating
it is to give the material you are spraying on a 'tooth', or a way to bite
into the hardened surface. PPG used to recommend sanding with 1500 but with
today's materials they recommend no finer then 800. You are running a risk
of adhesion failure if you use 1000 or finer. I personally use 600 and I
never have a problem...... Just a sidebar. I am sure that some of you have
cleared over 1000 and haven't had a problem, however 600 wet is faster to
sand with and cheap insurance for proper adhesion. If you are worried about
600 being to aggressive, split the difference and use 800.
