the change in cc limits is widely attributed to Honda. No doubt Honda felt
that they would be able to do the budget while others (especially little
Eyetaliano companies) would not be able to re-engineer so easily. Thus
providing Honda with a big advantage again.
In at least one way, this strategy may have paid off, since Yamaha clearly
took their eye off the 990cc ball, resulting in Rossi having to ride a bike
that was clearly outclassed by Honda and Ducati.

What's the point in bringing the cc s down?
I don't know all the politics of the governing board, but for me, it will
make for better racing (read: faster and more competitive corners).
Remember the 500cc days, when the 250cc bikes were close to the 500s in lap
speeds?
It's all about the corners (which I think was the cover story in the brit
"Bike" ten or so years ago-no, wait, it was "How to mend your corners;" good
article, great photo).
