Ryan,
The 12k was roughly $700 for my 99 900ss without valve adjustment. A lot of the stuff you can do yourself. Like Garth said, mostly fluids and the belt. Oh but they do repack the steering bearings. I didn't think it was a biggy but it made a difference when I got it back. If it is at all possible, have them only do the things you can't do, such as the steering bearing and valves. You can get the fluids and filters and chain taken care of on your own. Plus, I like learning about my bike. Its fun and then you've got more to post on here.

I don't have one handy, but all maintenance items should be described in
your owner's manual. It's mainly fluids, belts and valve clearance
check and replace (if out of range). A 12K service isn't cheap, but if
you have patience and are somewhat mechanically savvy, you /can/ do it
yourself.
