i have no thoughts about belt replacement, excepting the one that if i say something that people follow because i allegedly know what i'm talking about then i get fingers pointed at me when it goes pear shaped. i too have bikes that have done no miles on belts out of their service date - my 851 has nearly two years on belts that have one maybe 1,000km. or is it 3 years now (i forget) - doesn't matter anyway, it's been unregistered now for over a year. as i said, if the factory says it's ok, then they've done enough testing to say so.
on the other hand, if the new servicing schedule does go bad it'll be so far out of warranty they'll just say "it's a long way out of warranty". if you do more than 20,000km in 2 years then you're effectively back under the old schedule anyway. break at belt at 8 years old and 15,000km - what are you going to do? try to sue them?
