Hi Rich
Thanks for the kudos but my venting cam covers was purely my coping the
coverless race bike motors. Heat is the enemy of rubber no doubt about
that. I would imagine the new car engines with the lean burn and
emission regulations plus the ridicules amount of add ons has caused the
under hood temperatures to go way up. If they are moving to Urethane
belts it is probably a good thing. But it isn't likely you can just find
an equivalent belt and would you want to be the guinea pig? The other
thing to recognize is that automotive belts are generally much larger
and I don't think it is proportional. In other words a 2 liter Honda
motor has a belt 4 or more time larger then a 1 liter Ducati motor that
is a huge difference. I used to shred the teeth off small timing belts
on my turboed Lotus and they were just driving the alternator. But the
engine would wick up so fast that the inertia of the alternator tore off
the teeth. Your Ducati motor revs a bit faster then your Honda car
engine I would imagine.
