from what i've read it simply means that instead of changing oil, brake and clutch fluid once a year and belts and coolant every two years the servicing is now km based only.  so it can be five years old, done 5,000km and only had one service, sort of thing.  makes it much cheaper to keep.  last week i quoted someone who has a 998fe $330 or so for a belt change - it's done 3,000km.  she asked "does this mean we have to spend this much every 2 years".  to which the response is "well, it's your bike, you can do whatever you like, but going by the book, yes".  that's what they're trying to get rid of.

which takes us back to the days of when i started working on them, before we really hassled people about servicing them properly.  i wqonder if they'll change all the belt part numbers to stop the "but the part numbers haven't changed" stuff from pre '07 model owners.
