Maybe make it a half fairing. The two valve motor is still pretty enough to
look at.

As cool as that would be, I don't think it would be the right idea either.
It comes back to the whole debate of "make a "standard" Superbike that looks
like the RR". Again, that would tend to dilute the status & mystique of the
higher-end model.

If nothing else, a bodywork change would have to be in order.

That is all...

I'd say stick the new 1100cc two valve motor in the 1098 chassis, price it
at $10,000 and they'll sell as many as they can make. Now you have a bike
to replace the 749 and the Supersport line and call it the Pantah 1100e (for
evoluzione).

Hi Guys
Good time to start a new debate. I have been and continue to think that
a 749 successor is a mistake for Ducati. To get the price down they had
to raise the price of the larger bike as they essentially cost the same
to build. It makes no sense for the larger displacement bikes to support
the smaller displacement bikes. Raising the price of the larger bike
only put it out of the reach of some people who then went to a
competitor as the smaller bike was not what they wanted. Keeping the
1098 competitive in the big market makes more sense then selling a few
extra 749 bikes to Ducati people who essentially are the only ones
interested in the 749.

Now that doesn't preclude making an 849 for FX racing. What it does is
make the 849R the only sensible model. The R version will have enough
high priced goodies to warrant being more money then the 1098 and will
attract those customers who want to race that class or want a true race
replica but aren't ready for or can't justify a 1200R.
