As Scott said, the double yellow, single yellow, or let's just call it the 
middle of the road is treated as if it were instant death by anyone I know 
who rides a motorcycle, except when passing with plenty of room to safely 
make it back into the right lane. Having said that, the locals (trucks and 
cars) in the mountains here and on our curvy country roads regularly engage 
in what is known colloquially as "cut the corner" or as you put it 
"straighten them out". I do, however, see plenty of young sport bike rice 
rocket types do it frequently.
