[Ducati] Air ducting on Susie

Barry,
The pre-99 bikes did adopt a cooling duct for the vertical cylinder in 1997 on fully faired models (the SP and FE, that is). Before that there was none. The CR (half faired) models had no provision for ducting to the vertical cylinder as there is ample air flow without such measures.
My 1995 SP has no cooling ducts for the vertical cylinder and the bike has suffered no apparent adverse effects from the lack of them. Of course, my old scooter never goes over the 45 miles per hour, so there's no reason it should build excessive heat, is there? (I almost said that with a straight face!!!)
If you're adopting a half fairing or other engine baring modification then I doubt you'll have any problems.
Hope this helps,
Scott Cloninger
Hot head? (the bike and the author?!?!?!...I love double entendre)

Subject: [Ducati] Air ducting on SSie
The bike is an 01 900 SSie and my query is regarding the rear air ducting
that purports to direct air onto the vertical cylinder. Did the pre ie
bikes have them, are they essential only I would like to see a bit more of
the engine.
Thanks,
Barry
