[Ducati] I need your help or should I say,
these kids need your help!

Now that is an issue we all should get behind. I spent a good portion of my
young life in the garage. My parents couldnt keep me away from it. Anything
that had a nut, bolt, or screw on it was thouroughly torn apart, inspected
and reassembled . Most of the time I got it right. Helped me alot through
some terrible times as a youth. I came from a "Disfunctional Family of four
kids and I was the oldest. I could of gone the path of so many of the youth
of that time. But, I had this self proclaimed need to look after my younger
brother and two sisters. If it had not been for the sanctuary of my garage I
probably would of gone insane. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, the
garage, any garage, is a place of wonder and self gratification and it is
also a sanctuary from the life our kids face on the streets. Give that man
major props and I will do what I can to support their project. We really
need more people like Rich. Put a wrench in their hand, a project to work on
and a book in front of them to find answers and watch what happens.
Peace...Ron"Desmohead"Betts 95 900 SP
I've learned that I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it!

>Yesterday was a pretty divisive day amongst our Ducati clan here on the
>list.
>I guess it's all part of what makes the world go round. Right?
>So today I offer you the opportunity to re bond with something that we all
>love, motorcycles and helping others that have the same love that we do for
>motorcycles.
>Except these are kids! These are the kids that slip thought the cracks like
>Ron Betts mentioned in one of his earlier posts.
>So as a bickering group of elite motorcyclists, lets pull together and make
>a difference in one small corner of the world here and now!
>
>First take the time to read this website. It's not first class, but is full
>of class!
>Look at the energy these kids are putting into a rusting Honda!

>Here's a note Rich Desimony the shop teacher sent me after I sent him an
>email offering him and the kids some Ducati used parts.

>"Art thank you so much for the support and compliment's. The kids love the
>project and they are knocking down the door to work on the bike it works
>great. I tell them that their teachers need to send me progress reports
>weekly to make sure they are up to date on work before they can work on the
>bike. It is working great. Hopefully in the next 3 years we (the school)
>will be getting new CAD-CAM software and some industrial equipment to
>machine cool stuff. I'm working on it. Any way back to your offer, we would
>LOVE the brakes, lines and master cyl. I think the front wheel and rotors
>would be awesome but I'm not sure we can use it for this project. If this
>goes well this year (which it is so far) I have a hot rod sr500 motor and a
>748 swing arm to use on next years project!"
>
>Well he's getting all the stuff I promised.
>So what can we do as a collective group?
>Send these kids parts!
>How cool would it be if by some stretch of the imagination they got enough
>parts to piece a SBK or an SS together!
>More than likely they'd be just as tickled to have an tired old Desmo motor
>or a set of heads to dissect and learn from.
>
>So hunt through your garage for that motorcycle stuff that no longer has
>a use and sent it to someone who will get more mileage from it than it will
>sitting on a shelf. Send rich an email at richied at nycap.rr.com to see if he
>can use what you have, or just write the kids on their website and let them
>know what you think of their project.
>We are a world wide group here. Can you guess what the reaction would be if
>these kids got emails from the UK, Germany, Japan, etc.
>
>Also dealers and vendors see what you can do for these kids as well.
>Especially if your in the New York area. Spread the word.......
>
>Ask Rich if you can get a tax write off for the donation. I know schools
>used to do this. I haven't ask him about this yet because it doesn't
>pertain
>to me and my situation. As far as shipping goes the school will pick it
>up.

>Lastly Rich has no idea that I'm posting this here, so every donation of
>parts and every email sent will make a huge impact to this teacher and his
>students.
>
>Thanks all, for letting me rant!
>My way! : )
