Thought some folks might be interested in the following transcript of the
Rossi interview by my friend in Sardegna. Please feel free to enjoy or
critique as you wish.

Peter

I sent this right after the race.... but from a non-subbed e-mail address!
So here it is again. It's a quick transcript of the first interview by
Valentino Rossi to Italian press.
ciao
Luca

> Valentino Rossi's intervies to Italian press (summarized and translated
> rather freely and hastilt):
>
> "they let us die fat as pigs" is a saying of his homefolk. It means, in
> this case, we were able to climb the points ladder and then lose
> everything in the last race.
> "I feel very sad, losing is a new senstation for me, I was not used to
> it." Vale says. "we chose once again the wrong rear tyre, like at Estoril.
> About his bad start: "the red light has remained on longer than usual, and
> when I let the clutch go the front wheel rose" And of the fall: "then came
> the big fall. It was my mistake, of course. During the tests I took that
> corner hard at least 500 times, to see if the front tyre held. It always
> did. Today it didn't"
> "in the fall, the left handlebar bent, and in the hardest brakings I
> couldn't hold it well. Also the clutch lever and the footpeg were bent,
> and a shoulder hurt"
> "Hayden couldn't win because the Ducatis were really strong but he got the
> wolrd title anyway. Losing this way and thinking that if I had accepted to
> race for Ferrari, I would have not been able to ride again next year,
> would have left me a bitter taste for all my life. Now more than ever I am
> convinced I did the right choice in choosing to stay on a motorbike"
> After the race, he shook hands with Hayden "my compliments to my rival, If
> someone was to win the title from me, he was the one. He's a good rider
> and a great person. We have a good relationship.
> After the race I would have liked to hug him but he was on another planet"
> "I take my hat off and I kneel down to my team. We are all sad now but no
> one ever gave up. We were at minus 51 points and we managed to fight for
> the title to the last race."
> when the interviewer says that Yamaha and Michelin made errors Valentino
> replied "perhaps today I was feeling uneasy so I made a mistake too..."
> Is there a lesson to be learnt from this defeat? "yes, unbeatable
> superheroes don't exist. If I had won today, I would have felt like a
> superhero. the man who won every 1000cc motoGP championship. It is not
> so...."
>
> ciao
