[Ducati] valve tool

Andy and Dirk, typically you do not have to do this with air, you just need to bring piston you are working on around to near TDC, piston will keep valve from falling too far. I have never used air for anything more than leakdown etc...and though it seems easy it is far from it...and fittings for 12mm and 10mm sparkplugs not as common as most of these devices are made for cars which use bigger plugs. the newer bikes are 10mm as I recall. But again air is not required typically to hold up valves to do this work. Chris Kelly's idea and I think he even sells the plasitc hemostats????? work well on the two valvers as I recall, 4 valvers not an issue. Just dont turn bike over with valve loose and drop it....so hemostats insurance that you do not do something foolish....but at top of stroke valve not dropping too far.

Hello,
If you have access to an air compressor, this issue of keeping the valves closed during
valve lash adjustment is simple.
There is an "air tool" fitting that is used to perform a cylinder "leakdown" test. It works on every
internal combustion engine made.
It is a fitting that screws into the spark plug hole and allows you to attach a compressed air line to it.
You then administer compressed air to the cylinder with the piston at TDC.
The compressed air keeps the valve closed!
You can now remove shims for adjustment without fear of dropping the valve into the combustion chamber.
