Engine Management relay and injector relay I believe we are talking same beast, new bikes looks like one relay, old bike two. Just cause it clicks does not mean it is working, the click could be the one side energizing, meaning as an electromagnet it moves contact ,making noise but that does not mean the contacts are good. Could still be a weak contact even if voltage looks somewhat okay. takes amps to run the pump at a certain voltage. I would have to go back and look but seems to me proving out relay is not just a question of what voltage. I think the older desmoquattros had two injector relays under seat and the newer bike only one. Course the 996R is shower injectors one per unlike my old 916/955 which had dual injectors. But witout double checking I think there was only one injector relay that ran pump. They call this coils injector pump relay on newer bikes so it is a bit more functions than old relays that I thought were just injector relay. Rich

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the tips. I thought it would be the fuel pump, since I could
hear relays clicking, had voltage at the pump connector, but the pump would
only turn on 1/3 of the time. But last night I connected 12V straight to
the pump connector, and the pump ran every time. So then I looked at the
two engine management relays, the big 30A Bosch ones that sit under the
tail, right in front of the ECU. Pulled them, they looked fine, tested them
with 12V on the control coil, they clicked and made contact on the switched
connections every time. So I put them back in, hooked up the fuel pump
wiring, and tried the key. The first time, nothing. Every time after that,
the pump ran fine. I didn't try starting, as it was really late. I'll try
that tonight and see how it goes. Seems like an electrical gremlin at this
point - something is maybe marginally bad, like a wire or something.
Btw, you guys were mentioning injector relays. What are injector relays? I
don't see any of those on the wiring diagram I have.
Thanks,
John
