[Ducati] "Breakaway" helmets

A recent thread on another forum has me searching for information. In a discussion about helmets there was speculation that some helmet manufacturers build in "breakaway" features as a safety measure. Specifically, it was mentioned that parts such as plastic vents on helmets could cause one's head to twist/tumble (I guess) instead of allowing a smoother sliding action once in contact with pavement. So, helmet makers build them to "breakaway" on contact. This was new to me and I'm wondering if anyone has information about this. Also wondering if professional racers consider this in their choice of helmet.
