I've shared this before, but I'll do it again because it's one of my
favorite racing moments ever. A couple of years back when Chili was on a
Duc, I was doing corner work on Laguna Seca's Turn 3. The superbike race
started and there was a big pile-up in Turn 2 where 5 or 6 bikes were down
in the gravel pit. It was a big enough mess that they red-flagged the race
for a restart. Frankie was one of those involved in the train wreck, and
his bike was toast. We corner workers watched in awe as The Man jogged from
T2 all the way back up the front straight to start/finish -- in full
leathers and with the mercury up over 90 degrees F -- where he hopped on his
"B" bike, made the restart, AND WENT ON TO WIN THE RACE.
Superman indeed!
