Who did I use for injector work RC Enginnering I think. Nice reports showing before and after and I think maybe 20-30 bucks an injector. Always a good idea. Clayton may know of better sources today, when I started doing that over 10 years ago I kinda figured out a solution on my own. RC Enginnering was really a Sport Compact Car performance shop, meaning at the time I do not think they had alot of MC business...but they did a wonderful job with my injectors.
Also BMW fuel filters are way cheaper than Ducati, last price I got from local Duc dealer for fuel filter...54 damn dollars...I could not believe it. BMW Fuel filter I think was 14 bucks or so.
Yeah that 749R is one trick machine, but like Clayton says not a casual street riders bike. What Clayton does not tell you is that he is one of the more knowledgeable Ducati enthusiasts on this list, a good friend to several of us who have been at it awhile as well and likely one of the few guys I know who might be able to squeeze a bit of the potential out of this bike out on a track. When he bought it as one of his track tools it was no surprise, that anyone would buy it as their street bike is well...just a bit over the top. As one of the most developed Duc models this is something you want to keep away from the average Duc shop and put only in the hands of the best most knowledgeable shop. I think most if not all of the technology Ducati put in 999R was in 749R at least a year earlier. Short of MotoGp it is the most technologically advanced model Ducati makes. Cool bike...almost worth giving up my 996R for. Well, maybe not, I can alays dream of having both though. :)

Rod,
First of all you have a 749R, it is a race bike, not a street bike despite
technically being street legal. For that your expectations of it being a
good street bike should not be so high. Sorry, one should expect that a race
model is a bit more difficult. The 999R is far more street capable.
Your dealer should be able to cure the cut out as it revs up past 8 to 9k.
This will only get worse if not corrected. It is usually a sign of a
clogging injector and/or fuel filter. You could substitute a BMW R1100RS
filter as it is less prone to clogging. The average dealer doesn't have very
much experience with your bike. It is not the same as a standard 749/999 in
many aspects.
Any good fuel injection service center can ultrasonic clean and flow test
the injectors. As my friend Doug Lofgren discovered, very few of the OEM
injectors flow correctly, usually a 1 to 2 ratio of good to bad. Not just
Ducati, many brands. R model injectors are tested so they are usually much
closer to correct than the standard fare that Weber supplies to its
customers. They will have the initial test flow scribed on the side ie 98,
100, 108 or 106 etc. meaning % of specified target flow at the target
pressure.
The Mathias or DDS tester will indicate an injector fail code, with either
event. If you are in the UK you could take it to John Hackett or Ducati
Bristol. They know the 749R very well. If you can't cure the stalling,
contact Jason at Section8Superbike.com He came up with the fix to cure that
problem. It works. Good Luck
Clayton

I wonder if any listers have any ideas on the problems I am having with my
bike.
I have had a 749R for about 18 months and it has gone back into the dealers
for the upteenth time.
The first couple of months I had no problems apart from cutting out(dealer
said it's a cammy engine they all do that)
First of all when I come to traffic lights there is a good chance that as
come to a stop it will cut out either immediately or within a few seconds.
The second thing that is happening is that when I accelerate hard it will
get up to 8k or so and suddenly as if a switch was being turned on & off
pull /die/ pull.
(when I say pull i mean continue accelerating) A few times during
acceleration it will die completely ,with the bike coming to a complete
stop. When I press the starter it will fire up again as long as I give it a
second or two before pressing it.If I press the starter straight away it
will not turn the engine.
The engine management light does not come on at any time.
The dealer has checked the bike over and says that all of the settings are
as they should be.
This is my first Ducati and to be honest if this keeps on it might be my
last.
The warranty is coming to an end in June so I am a bit worried that if no
solution arises he will start charging me.
Is it worth contacting Ducati direct,I am in the U.K. by the way.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks Rod
