Rod I understand how you feel. This problem is for sure giving you a bad
time. My comments are as follows:

1. The cause is probably very simple, as you will see once solved. In my
opinion most likely we are speaking about electrical shutdown due to a bad
positive or ground connection, or water sitting inside the wrong place. It
is unlikely a major failure of an electronic component.
2. To isolate the problem and find the causes somebody has to sit down with
the technical documentation of your bike, and your bike at hand, and think a
bit.
3. For the documentation I would start looking in www.duc.nu . There are
manuals of 749/999 and 999R.
4. The person to do (2) is not your current dealer. His comments about
"cammy" engine, and "they are all created equal" are not related to the
problem, as you already notice. I would suggest to find another owner with
the same bike, or another dealer who sold this model before, and to get
involved personally in the troubleshooting.

Let us know what the problem was once fixed.
Good luck and welcome to the family/ Antonio

I wonder if any listers have any ideas on the problems I am having with my
bike.
I have had a 749R for about 18 months and it has gone back into the dealers
for the upteenth time.
The first couple of months I had no problems apart from cutting out(dealer
said it's a cammy engine they all do that)
First of all when I come to traffic lights there is a good chance that as
come to a stop it will cut out either immediately or within a few seconds.
The second thing that is happening is that when I accelerate hard it will
get up to 8k or so and suddenly as if a switch was being turned on & off
pull /die/ pull.
(when I say pull i mean continue accelerating) A few times during
acceleration it will die completely ,with the bike coming to a complete
stop. When I press the starter it will fire up again as long as I give it a
second or two before pressing it.If I press the starter straight away it
will not turn the engine.
The engine management light does not come on at any time.
The dealer has checked the bike over and says that all of the settings are
as they should be.
This is my first Ducati and to be honest if this keeps on it might be my
last.

The warranty is coming to an end in June so I am a bit worried that if no
solution arises he will start charging me.
Is it worth contacting Ducati direct,I am in the U.K. by the way.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks Rod
