Where do you find those dry versus lubricated torque specs? Machinest Handbook? I loaned my 25th edition to someone and cant lay my hands on it. Rich

To accurately measure torque the nut must be turning. Static friction and dynamic friction are two entirely different things and static friction (nut not turning) is considerably higher. If the nut isn't turning you are reading "torque" values that are artifically inflated. An air wrench is not an acceptable substitute for a torque wrench.

You need to back the fastener off until the nut or bolt starts turning before your wrench "clicks" (of before your wrench's needle reaches the recommended torque reading) to achieve accurate results.

As far as lubrication whilst tightening....I have a torque value chart rated for dry threads and for lubricated threads and each given fastener size, and the two numbers are radically different. I get better, more uniform results with lubricated thread numbers. YMMV. Most manuals publish dry ratings. I think the most important thing is to make sure that in either case the threads are very clean!!

Now for the monkey wrench in the works....that goop you stick on your threads...you know...Loctite...acts as a lubricant. Wonder if they've factored that into the specs?

Enquiring minds want to know.

I have installed a Bucci light weight flywheel on my 999S myself and I love
it! I have used all correct maintenance practices and followed their Tech
manual to the letter in order to avoid this particular issue. I have
actually torqued to nut to 145 Ft. lbs to give me an extra +/- % room for
tool calibration errors. The initial torque was accomplished by an air gun
and later confirmed by the torque wrench (it is easier this way since you
avoid any chance of retaining tool sleapage)
