First time I ran into these was in 1968. I was a young pup hanging around a shop across the street building all types of Chevy racing motors. The 'mouse' motors built for the Z-28's required new head studs for every rebuild.
Explanation was they stretched on final torque and were not to be reused.
More recently, my '99 VFR800 Interceptor has them for the brake caliper mounting bolts. Honda specifies replacing when removed.
