That's why it was such a huge shock ending -- better than any thriller I've
ever read. :) I fully expected Nicky to just coast out the rest of the
race, give Colin the win, collect his 20 points, and call it a day. Who was
it in 3rd, Nakano? He was so far back that Nicky could've just knocked 2-3
seconds off his pace and strolled in to the finish.
He even said in his post-race interview that people were telling him he
should take it easy and just post a higher standing than his closest
competitors -- who were injured anyway, and running well behind the
leaders. (Aside: huge props to Rossi for pulling an eighth place finish out
in spite of what was obviously a lot of pain. I was a little annoyed when
he pushed Capirossi off the track during his pass, but hey, that's racing.)
But Nicky also said that it was important to HIM to get a win -- more
important, it seems, than his championship standing. No question, the Kid's
a competitor.
