assuming it's an early 999R out of warranty i'd go to your dealer and ask them to send a warranty request in for the coil update as per the service info issued some time ago.  they replace the coils with the later lead type.  as it's a service info and not a recall tho anything out of warranty needs factory approval.  that's how it works over here anyway.

we had this on a few bikes, including a demo 749 that had nothing wrong with it apart from the missing.  no logic to it at all.
