[Ducati] question on Magneti Marelli speedo/tach

I've a '03 Monster 800 and have always LOVED it. I'll never sell it as they
only made it for two years. Besides pretty much the only spring that exists
in the whole engine/trans breaking; luckily only causing it to sound like a
typewriter instead of fragging into the engine and a defective oil cooler,
my only problems have been all with the speedo/tach. The first time one of
the turn signal indicators went bad: solution: new speedo/ tach #1. Next up,
the RPM needle started to bounce around/vibrate though still reading
accurately; solution: new speedo/tach #2. Finally, the RPM needle started
sinking lower and lower than zero upon stopping until it began pointing
straight down; needless to say, it WASN'T measuring speed anywhere close to
accurately; solution: speedo/tach #3. What gives? On the third, the dealer
rightfully insisted on inspecting the bike as the Ducati boys were down for
the day from NJ. At first they thought possible air gap, next something
electrical but later decided as I suspected it was yet ANOTHER defective
speedo/tach. Any thoughts, similar experiences, advice (other than: 'hey,
it's Italian, whaddda you want? What'samattayou?). I'm having trouble
keeping track of my overall mileage for goodness sake!!! I'm sure glad I
purchased and extended warranty.
Thanks in advance,
Eric Frost in Washington, D.C.
